I sure as heck didn’t know what Radio CBC 3 was until I saw this report from a Toronto paper.
What a delightfully subversive use of tax dollars — the state-funded CBC has a Skunk Works building new web and radio content around indie music, framed up as a “phantom” third radio network. When I worked on World Cafe, we had visions of subverting NPR in the same way, though the stations wanted us on a shorter leash.
Their main music site is New Music Canada, and it features streaming tracks from dozens of really great bands I never would have heard of otherwise. Neat!
