Yes, back when guys like Cousin Brucie and Dick Clark could open a mic and cause a Sam Goody stampede, radio (and TV) could dictate what records flew off store shelves. Not today. Focus groups and sales forecasts determine what goes on an FM playlist. So if you’re still trying to exert yourself to get a song on the radio, check this modern day proof:

The Dixie Chicks have gone gold and are rocketing toward platinum with their new album — with very little radio airplay behind them. Instead, fan loyalty and direct connections to their core audience — not the country-radio listening fringe — are driving this project forward.
