The Wizard Speaks

Rock icon (and one of my former bosses) Todd Rundgren is back with his first album in ten years. The Sun-Times helps him lay the guilt trip on all the labels he pitched pay-per-download to back in the day

“When we were pioneering this [interactive software], we were involved in a specific project to find out what the dynamic would be if people were allowed to get music delivered right into their homes,” Rundgren explains. “But in order to demonstrate it, you had to have the music. Not a single label, including Warner’s, would allow us to use their music. They didn’t even want to think about it. We went to every label — every single one.

“And now? It serves them right what’s happening now. They had their opportunity and they didn’t do the right thing.”
