Has your iPod Got C.R.A.P. in it?

The Executive Editor of CNet explains why Digital Rights Management tools are full of C.R.A.P. Whenever I lead a seminar on growing your audience, folks either understand why unrestricted MP3s are great for the independent music business, or they’re freaking out about the eighty cents in revenue they feel they lost because some street team member posted an MP3 on her MySpace account.

MP3s without DRM = good for your music career, unless you’re already on the list of top 100 albums of all time.

P.S.: It’s not the fault of technology companies — they’re just trying to deal with demands from labels and big Hollywood conglomerates. It’s crazy though, how protecting these files is causing more and more grief — preventing folks from letting the technology get out of the way so listeners can just enjoy music.
