On Feb. 2, NYC played host to the Plug Awards — an awards ceremony that recognizes Indie bands and singers and celebrates Indie music as a whole. The Plug Awards, only a few years old, “seeks to create an awards show that escapes all of the evils of other awards shows that focus on sales, media saturation, etc (i.e. buying influence) to reward novel concepts like artistic integrity and … good music.” It seems Indie music *is* on the radar and people are recognizing that there’s a lot to offer in this often-unacknowledged genre.
