New rock memoir hits shelves this week

Back in the mid-90s, Boston singer-songwriter Jen Trynin was the subject of a major label bidding war. A few years and two unsuccessful albums later, Trynin left the major label game, went back to school and into hiding for awhile. Her new book “Everything I’m Cracked Up to Be,” based on journals she kept during her whirlwind stint as rock star, comes out this week.
I’m really looking forward to reading Trynin’s book, as I also really enjoyed “So You Wanna Be A Rock And Roll Star?” by Jacob Slichter, the former drummer for the band Semisonic, who had a huge hit in the 90s with “Closing Time.” It’s fascinating to read what it’s like to be on the inside of the big label machinery.
