Derek from CDBaby has just launched digital distribution services, acting as a broker to iTunes and Rhapsody. The service fee ($40 + a 9% commission) is more than fair, given the opportunity cost of having to get on to these services yourself. Just don’t hold your breath waiting for the money to come rolling in — remember that getting listed in these services doesn’t mean folks will automatically start buying your stuff en masse. It’s just another way you can get your audience to help support you. (Don’t have $10 for an album? How about 99¢ for a download?)0
