More and more of our clients and members ask me how to get songs placed in television or film. Because directors and music supervisors need songs that “fit” a scene or a series, they’re not so concerned about whether an artist or a songwriter has a built-in audience. In fact, many music supervisors like to field submissions from independent bands because they can often cut better deals more quickly with indies than they can with acts on major labels.
A lot of these decisions happen on the fly, in edit booths or in writers’ rooms, so it’s fantastic that Alexandra Patsavas, the music supervisor for Grey’s Anatomy, blogs not just the track list for each episode, but some insight into how the process comes together as a collaboration between her team, the directors, and the show-runners.
