Craigslist as an unhelpful (?) tool for music promotion

You can find a lot of things on a lot of websites. In fact, there’s unlikely to be anything you can think of that doesn’t already have information about it on the web. (Give it a try, if you have the time.) And Craigslist is just one site that has a ton of info on it. If you’re looking for housing, jobs, significant others, etc., it has all of that. And as a musician looking to network, the fact that it has perhaps too much on the site might make it harder to use Craigslist to your advantage, since there’s a lot to shuffle through before finding anything about music. Have any of you found success using Craigslist? Of course, I hope that it could be used as an effective tool, but it just seems to me that there’s more info on the site that people might not have the time or attention span to get through everything on the site if they don’t know where to go, specifically, for music info.

I’ve had success using it to get musicians for my writers nights.

The only attempts I’ve seen for *promotion* have been horrible (I think the fact that it’s a free service attracts people who only want to put in the least amount of effort possible).
But for *networking* it has been a great tool for me.
There’s a hyperlink to “musicians” in the upper left hand corner under “community” - I found it pretty easily.

Damn straight it works for me…. I’ve packed rooms with it. You have to give people what they want is all. And people on Craig’s list are looking for cheap and free. I’ve done free ticket giveaways on there that work like gang busters.
