Music Management for the Rest of Us
At a certain point after the release of Grow Your Band’s Audience, I started branching out into managing and booking musicians as well as consulting them. During that time period, I discovered that everything I thought I knew about the music management business was pretty much wrong. I learned:
- Why bands can make so much more money if they train a capable friend or family member to manage them instead of relying on “experienced” industry veterans.
- Why musicians should never allow management and booking duties to fall upon the same person. (It’s a major conflict of interest!)
- Why the myth of “needing” a manager or an agent keeps so many young bands from achieving personal and financial success.
