Music Management for the Rest of Us

At a certain point after the release of Grow Your Band’s Audience, I started branching out into managing and booking musicians as well as consulting them. During that time period, I discovered that everything I thought I knew about the music management business was pretty much wrong. I learned:

  • Why bands can make so much more money if they train a capable friend or family member to manage them instead of relying on “experienced” industry veterans.
  • Why musicians should never allow management and booking duties to fall upon the same person. (It’s a major conflict of interest!)
  • Why the myth of “needing” a manager or an agent keeps so many young bands from achieving personal and financial success.
So, I wrote about all that and more in my third book, Music Management for the Rest of Us. It’s designed to help beginning music managers avoid the same mistakes I made during the first few years of running my own management company.
If you’re a band looking for a manager, stop looking. Instead, give a copy of this book to your street team leader, your brother, or your mom. If you’ve got someone you can trust, preferably not someone you’re sleeping with (and I will explain why in the book), this book can show them what needs to happen.
