Are You Stifling Creativity?

Curt Rosengren, whose weblog has become a daily must-read for me, highlights an article about factors that can inhibit your creativity. Two big a-ha’s: to be creative, you must tell yourself you are creative; you must also give yourself the right environment in which to create.

When I was living in Florida, I had a bright, clean office — too bright, too clean. I don’t think I wrote a single word in that office that I’m willing to publish. Since moving to Athens, a vibrant, funky, but laid-back town populated by truly creative individuals, I have been pounding out lots of really good stuff, which I will publish very soon. There’s truth to this.
