  1. What program offers an MBA in music management? That sounds very interesting. After working in the music industry for four years, I pursued a general MBA at Carnegie Mellon University, though I considered ‘specialty’ MBAs as well.

Molly, if you’re reading this, I’d love to hear what you think of your program. I’ve received various degrees of feedback regarding Media & Entertainment specialty programs when I was applying myself.

Best of luck with your survey — ping me some time!

  2. Mike,

I’m not sure how my survey info ended up here on spinme. A wonderful supporter must have been helping me out. Anyway, my MBA is in Management from Strayer University, Cary, NC Campus. I also hold a BA in Communications (Rhetoric/Persuasion) and a minor in Spanish from UNC-Chapel Hill (’05 nat. b-ball champs. go heels!)

I considered doing a MBA in music management at Belmont in Nashville, one of the few places that offers the music specialization, but after speaking to a recent graduate and learning that their artist management class was basically being taught from “This Business of Artist Management” by Frascogna & Hetherington, I figured I would do fine in a typical management program. I justified not going there to myself by writing every research paper at school on some aspect of the music business. For example, I wrote a pretty big paper on Norman Granz, Ella Fitzgerald’s (among others) manager. I collaborated with a scholar at Rutger’s University who is writing the first ever biography on Granz and met him and interviewed him several times during his lifetime. It’s amazing how much artist management has changed… Granz used to take cross country road trips to book gigs in person. Now we just send an email.

Anyway, I checked out your website. It looks like you have great experience in the industry. I hope it’s ok if I email you with a couple of questions later on.

    Thanks for the note!
